Baby Cockroach Singapore | Is it a Sign of Infestation?

Baby Cockroach Singapore

Just like their parents, there is nothing cute or cuddly about a baby cockroach! In fact, they are a sign of a massive problem, and you should call your pest control expert as soon as you spot one. If a baby cockroach is dawdling around, it's a no-brainer that the adults and their nests are nearby.

A baby cockroach could be a sign of a growing invasion or an onset of an infestation. Either way, you need to treat this problem fast before the infestation becomes uncontrollable.

Female cockroaches are known to hatch up to 50 baby cockroaches, called nymphs, at once. So your house might be sheltering more cockroaches than you think!

Besides being a very disturbing site, nymphs can contaminate foods and spread diseases like salmonella, cholera dysentery, and even leprosy! To protect your loved ones, pets, staff, and customers, cockroaches must be eliminated when the infestation is still small.

What Do Baby Cockroaches Look Like?

It's quite simple to distinguish a baby cockroach from an adult. Unlike adult cockroaches, nymphs are tiny (1.6inches), whitish, and their wings are not developed yet.

However, it's important to note that while most adult roach species have wings, some do not develop wings at all! As such, you'll need to observe the cockroach more to be certain it's indeed a nymph.

For instance, all nymphs tend to have two long and thin antennae sprouting from their heads. The heads are bent downwards, and the mouthparts seem to be pointing backward. German baby roaches are flat-bodied, have a hard shell, and are darker than adults.

There are numerous cockroach species in the world. Being able to distinguish them is the first step towards an effective treatment plan. It may be difficult for an untrained eye to spot the differences, but a professional will quickly determine the cockroach species causing you trouble and recommended the best control measures.

How To Distinguish Baby Cockroaches

Cockroaches are one of the most common household pests. Unfortunately, they can infest just about any home from the cleanest to the dirtiest. They invade in search of food and better conditions to raise their young ones.

Once they get into your home, the female roaches look for the safest place to lay their ootheca (the case that protects roach eggs). This could be anywhere from your dresser, cabinet, clothes, any empty spaces within your walls, or in your wooden structures.

While some species like the German cockroach carry their eggs until they are ready to hatch, others like the Smokybrown cockroaches are happy to leave the eggs on furniture, cardboards, or any surface.

In just about 25-40 days, baby roaches will emerge from the ootheca. Here's how to distinguish them:

• German baby roaches: An adult German cockroach produces the largest number of eggs in each ootheca than any other cockroaches, reaching up to 30-40 eggs. The nymphs are often 1\8 inches in length. They have a very dark brown color, and some may even appear blackish. With time, they develop a tan stripe at the back of their heads. As they approach the adult stage, you'll see their color change into a pale brown.

• American baby roaches: An adult American cockroach lays close to 17 eggs in each ootheca every month for ten months. The nymphs are about 1/8 inches in length. They have a black-brownish color that later develops into red-brown. As they approach the adult stage, they develop a halo mark behind their heads.

• Brown-Headed baby roaches: An adult brown-headed cockroach can lay up to 16 eggs in each ootheca. Their nymphs are also pretty small, measuring up to 1\8 inches in length. They have a brown color, and you'll quickly notice the two light-colored bands at the back of their heads.

• Oriental baby roaches: Female Oriental cockroaches lay up to 16 eggs per ootheca. An Oriental baby cockroach is about 1/8 of an inch in length. In their early stages, they have a reddish-brown color that darkens and can even turn black in their adult stage.

Are Baby Cockroaches Harmful?

From eggs, nymphs, adults to fecal droppings, cockroaches are disgusting and gross in all their ways! Their presence in any house is downright unsafe for everyone, most especially for those with allergies and asthma.

They are known to release proteins that irritate a victim's respiratory system. Their fecal droppings are airborne with the ability to trigger asthma attacks. Yes, baby cockroaches can cause asthma in your beloved children.

These tiny, gross pests can transfer more than 30 different types of bacteria, seven disease-causing pathogens, and six kinds of parasitic worms into your food.

Baby roaches, just like their adult friends, also like to wander in the dirtiest of places and eat the filthiest things they come across. They'll then deposit this disgusting dirt onto your kitchen counters, pantry, and any foods they come across. Of course, that means that you and your loved ones are not only at the risk of falling seriously sick, but you're also looking at possible severe food poisoning.

Baby cockroaches are associated with many other health risks, and you certainly do not want any of them in your home or office! You must get rid of every single baby cockroach fast and efficiently.

What Should You Do When You Spot A Baby Cockroach?

Ignoring baby cockroaches and hoping they die or go away on their own is a big mistake. The least that you can do is to purchase the best cockroach pesticide and treat your home or office, targeting the heavily infested areas.

However, there's only one effective way to get rid of cockroaches permanently and ensure they never come back- seeking help from a professional pest controller. Upon your request, cockroach extermination experts will be sent to your premises to do a purposive inspection all over your home and compound. They will determine the exact species of cockroach causing you trouble, the level of the infestation, and the factors that could be attracting the roaches into your home.

The experts will then recommend the safest course of treatment that will exterminate the cockroaches in all their stages from the eggs, nymphs, to adults. Once they've rendered your premises unattractive to roaches, the experts will give you professional advice on how to keep cockroaches away from your home.
